Venus Antiqua: Brassempouy is a contemporary sculptural interpretation of one of the most extraordinary Paleolithic objects — the fragmentary head known as the Venus of Brassempouy.

The original ivory figurine, discovered in the Grotte du Pape cave in France and dated to approximately 25,000 BCE, is considered one of the earliest known representations of a human face. Reduced to structure and rhythm, it marks a decisive moment in the history of figurative thought.

This brooch is conceived as a small sculptural object worn on the body.
It is not a replica of the archaeological artifact, but an original form inspired by its geometry, surface pattern, and fragmentary character.

The form is intentionally restrained and focused.
Rather than presenting a complete figure, it emphasizes detail, presence, and concentration — allowing the object to exist as an autonomous sculptural form.

Each piece is handcrafted and mounted as a brooch, functioning simultaneously as jewelry and as a self-contained sculptural object.

Materials & Variations

The brooch is available in the following versions:

  • Ivory tone — sculptural polymer material mounted on a stainless steel brooch pin

  • Gold tone — jewelry bronze surface mounted on a steel brooch pin

The finishes emphasize surface texture and form rather than decorative effect.

Dimensions
