Some symbols never lose their power, even as the world around them changes.
Noctua Athenae — the Owl of Athena — is a Latin name for one of the most enduring icons of the ancient world. The owl was the sacred attribute of Athena, goddess of wisdom and protector of the city of Athens. Its image appeared for centuries on coins, documents and artefacts, becoming a visual synonym of knowledge, clarity and independent thought.
This pendant is a contemporary interpretation of the Athenian tetradrachm — not a replica, but a new object that preserves the proportions and geometric discipline of its ancient source while fully inhabiting the language of modern jewellery.
Cast in jeweller’s bronze with a cool, silver-toned finish, the pendant has a sculptural, restrained surface. The fine surgical-steel chain does not compete with the form; it merely carries it, allowing the owl to remain the silent centre of the composition.
Each piece is handmade in my studio in short series. I work with proportion, rhythm and quiet presence rather than ornament. This is jewellery for those who do not wear decoration — they wear meaning.
