Step into one of the world’s oldest treasures of human civilization – the Varna culture.
These asymmetrical statement earrings are inspired by the mysterious amulets of the Varna culture (5th millennium BC), discovered in present-day Bulgaria. The Varna necropolis is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Europe, famous for yielding the world’s oldest known gold artifacts and evidence of a sophisticated prehistoric society.
The so-called amulets found there are believed to carry spiritual and symbolic meaning – possibly connected to fertility, protection, or social status. Their enigmatic shapes continue to fascinate archaeologists and art historians to this day.
I have reimagined these powerful ancient forms in the language of contemporary jewelry: bold, asymmetrical earrings handcrafted from lightweight polymer clay and finished with hypoallergenic surgical steel studs. Despite their impressive size, they are comfortable to wear for hours.
